Datum Secure Highways England Approval

Highways England have approved The Datum Group as an official supplier.

It means the Greater Manchester based geotechnical monitoring and surveying experts can now work directly for Highways England.

Datum‘s framework agreement allows them to provide topographical surveying, noise and vibration surveys, geotechnical surveys and ground and water monitoring.

Datum Business Development, Chris Morrison, said: “We are delighted to have been approved as a Highways England Supplier.

“Datum are the UK’s leading rail monitoring specialist and our automated wireless monitoring systems have already made a significant contribution to the safety, sustainability and economic efficiency of the UK rail network.

“Although highways assets are not as old as the Victorian rail infrastructure, both manual and automated monitoring are utilised to create understanding of asset performance across the vast highways network.

“We look forward to bringing our range of services and skills to a range of Highways England projects.”

Highways England replaced the Highways Agency in 2014 and was tasked with delivery of the Department of Transport’s Roads Investment Strategy 1, (RIS 1), a £15bn investment which covers more than 100 major schemes.

They created 14 regions to enable organisation of the work across the country. The new framework agreement allowing Highways England to work directly with specialist suppliers will be rolled out nationally if successful.

The initial framework agreement allows Datum to provide services to the following areas:

  • 1   – Cornwall & Devon
  • 2  – Somerset, Avon and Gloucestershire
  • 7  – East Midlands
  • 13 – Cumbria
  • 14 – Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Durham and North Yorks

Morrison, added: “The framework agreement will utilise five of Datum’s regional officers and allow Highways England to engage directly with our specialist technical skills.

“Our technical experience will provide topographical surveying, noise and vibration surveys, geotechnical surveys and ground and water monitoring.

”This framework is an innovative new way for Highways England to engage directly with technical specialists to provide value to the organisation.

“The success of the framework is expected to be rolled across all Highways areas, enabling Datum to be at the forefront of remote condition monitoring within the Highways sector, utilising all four key divisions within our group”
