JEMMA Simpson finished second at Olympic trial in Birmingham – but now faces a nervous wait.
Even though Simpson meets the IAAF qualification criteria her time does not meet UK Athletic’s own rules.
Simpson needed to finish in the first two on Saturday and run quicker that 1.59.90 to meet UKA’s strict rules.
Scotland’s Lynsey Sharp led the field home in a time but also faces a nervous wait to find out if she can make the team.
The 21-year-old law graduate will now fly with Simpson to the European Championships in Finland this week to try and run inside that ‘A’ standard.
Three Team GB places are available for the women’s 800m in London. Marilyn Okoro and Emma Jackson have already achieved the ‘A’ standard but they finished well down, finishing fifth and seventh respectively.
The result will give the selectors a real headache unless the pair can achieve the ‘A’ standard in Helsinki.
