JEMMA Simpson’s Olympic preparations got off to a solid start as she cruised through to the Aviva Finals 2012 Trials in Birmingham.
The 28-year-old former British champion enjoyed a relatively easy work out in Heat 2 of the 800m to qualify for the Final on Saturday, cruising home in a time of 2.08.32.
Simpson knows she has has to finish in the top two of the Finals and achieve the ‘A’ qualification time of 1.59.90 to secure automatic selection for Team GB at the 2012 Olympics.
Jemma faces tough competition from Marilyn Okoro, Emma Jackson, Charlotte Best and Lynsey Sharp in the Final but is happy with her form.
Her run in Heat 2 of the 800m allowed her to test her pace in difficult conditions as the rain poured down in Birmingham.
