JEMMA Simpson has spoken for the first time about her Olympic selection heartache.
She faces a nervous wait to discover whether she has done enough to make the Great Britain Olympic team.
The 28-year-old was bitterly disappointed that she couldn’t run to the ‘A’ standard during the European Championship Final in Helsinki on Saturday – but she insists she is getting closer to hitting the mark.
Jemma, said: “I did everything I could to put myself in a position to run the A standard in that final. I went out hard and hit perfect splits for a 1.58/59 type of race.
“The unfortunate thing for me is I haven’t done enough race specific training and that showed over the last 100m where I faded badly.
“I laid every inch of my tired body on the line to try and execute that race and it didn’t quite pull off. But again, on a positive note, three weeks ago I would never of been physically able to hit those paces so it has shown me that I have progressed again and am getting closer and closer to where I need to be.”
