Onside PR founder James Fletcher is a Manchester based sports PR specialist.
Having worked for the ten years at the cutting edge of the UK sports journalism it is fair to say we know the industry inside out – and have a unrivalled contacts book.
Since leaving newspapers Onside have worked one two major football club acquisitions and been asked to provide emergency support to two leading Premiership clubs during time of crisis.
We have worked with a number of Premiership players and managerial figures on sensitive PR and Marketing opportunities that have involved the seeking of publicity – and crucially the quashing of it.
With current contacts within journalism and within sporting organisations Onside PR founder James Fletcher is a man trusted by sporting stars, their agents and employers.
The trust has been developed during a decade in the North West as a sports writer. Fletcher was privileged to work with some of the biggest names in sport and football in particular.
Working closely with Sir Alex Ferguson, David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and the England football team Fletcher proved to be a man who could be trusted, and who knew the sport and the requirements of the media.
Sport is my passion – and I have been privileged to call it my profession for more than a decade.
As Chief Northern Football Writer with The News of the World and the Daily Mirror’s Northern Football Writer before that I was fortunate to work at the cutting edge of sports journalism.
I worked on a daily basis with players, management and club officials at Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton, Blackburn and Bolton as well as the England national football team.
From the Treble winning Manchester United team, the emergence of mega stars like David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and the arrival to the Premiership of some of the world’s richest individuals in Roman Abramomvic and Sheikh Mansour.
Probably the highlight – regardless of your football allegiances – has been the privilege of working closely with Sir Alex Ferguson during a decade of dominance at Manchester United.
World Cups, European Championships, the hustle and bustle of a Champions League mixed zone, the cramped conditions of a press box, impromptu press conferences and being part of the mania of flying into places like Bangkok with David Beckham and the Manchester United team; all vital experiences that can not be learned from a PR guide or text book.
Trust is the key element for sports writer, especially for a journalist working for a tabloid newspaper who’s colleagues in news and features would like to writing entirely different stories about the people I was privileged to work with on a day-in, day-out basis.
This insight enabled me to develop key relationships that often matured into long lasting friendships and provided me with an incredible insight into the demands of being a professional athlete or sporting brand.
I understand what an athlete needs, whether it be a desire to raise their profile, market their brand, manage their reputation or protect them in times of crisis and my media contacts book enables me to deliver results that work.
