Stockport Council has published a revised SPD for the former Woodford Aerodrome.
They have removed the proposed single masterplan for the 500 acre site and instead prepared three possible development opportunities.
Council officials believe the revised SPD – or Supplementary Planning Document – will deliver a development that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.
The revised SPD has been prepared following a consultation period involving residents and community groups – resulting in more than 700 comments.
The amended SPD removes the indicative masterplan and instead outlines a series of three development area options which could all be delivered in compliance with development plan policies.
It considers the likely scale of such redevelopment and concludes that a residential-led scheme may amount to in the region of 750-850 houses.
The revised SPD continues to promote a residential-led development but also now includes scope for local employment opportunities.
It also includes reference to the potential for healthcare provision and states that this will need to be reviewed in the future.
