Professional Footballers Association
The Professional Footballers Association is the trade union for professional footballers in England and Wales.
The PFA is the world’s oldest sporting union, boasts more than 4,000 members, and in 2007 celebrated their 100th anniversary.
To mark the occasion, the PFA launched the ‘One Goal, One Million campaign’ with the specific goal of raising £1 million to build a new rehabilitation unit for the Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Onside PR joined the PFA team to raise the profile of the union and the ‘One Goal, One Million’ campaign.
This involved working with PFA senior management and event specialists Arena International, to organise events, coordinate and manage global media interest and manage the various activities.
It was a hugely enjoyable experience, working day-in, day-out alongside some key decision makers and influencers.
The ‘One Goal, One Million’ campaign was a huge success and succeeded in raising the £1-million target.
Utilising our contacts we were able to secure support for the fundraising year from the England national team, high profile footballers including David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and the Premier League.
The year culminated in an England Legends v the Rest of the World football match at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, broadcast live on TV across the world and a star-studded gala dinner and charity auction.
I was extremely impressed with James’ contribution to the PFA’s Centenary Celebrations. In a year with a series of high profile events and a £1 million charitable target, his extensive industry knowledge coupled with a wealth of contacts helped to ensure maximum coverage for this landmark campaign’
