FastFlow Energy secured The George trophy but The Christie were the real winners at the Red CCTV Golf Day.
They will receive a bumper cheque for £25,000 from monies raised at the event thanks to its fantastic guests and sponsors.
The monies will be donated to The Christie to help them continue their brilliant work helping those affected by cancer in honour of George ‘Billy’ McCarthy, who sadly his battle with cancer in December 2019 at just 50-years-of-age.
Billy, is survived by his wife, Natasha and children Scarlett, Roman and Ava, and his memory will live on through ‘The George” Golf Day, organised by his former best pal Rob Kennedy, Managing Director of Red CCTV.
Special Man
Rob, explained: “Billy was my best friend, a very, very special man. Despite being given the worst possible news he refused to give up the fight.
“Despite his prognosis, Billy refused to give up, and fought on against all the odds to keep his life as normal as possible, even when he was in pain and enduring difficulties.
“He refused to give in. He really was a walking miracle at times, continuing to have fun and enjoy a laugh and drink even during treatments when his body must have been in a state of turmoil.
“The Christie were amazing and Professor Mark Saunders, his Consultant Oncologist, was incredible and we felt it was fitting to try and give something back.
“We have always held a charity golf day but this year, we played for The George, a trophy named in honour of Billy and this will become an annual event that, once Covid has gone away, will become even bigger and better.”
Covid Secure
The impact of the Coronavirus pandemic had led to concerns that the Red CCTV Golf Day, hosted at The Mere Golf Resort and Spa on Friday October 2, 2020, might need to be cancelled.
But, with social distancing measures implemented and embraced, and the Red CCTV’s Halo Shield Body Temperature Measuring Systems able to check all guests for elevated temperatures, the event was given the green light.
Fastflow Energy Services were the first winners of the ‘George’ with a brilliant team performance at the Red CCTV Golf Day, heading off interest from 19 other teams of four.
Manchester United legends Bryan Robson, Denis Irwin, Mickey Thomas and Kevin Moran all leant their support to the event, with Denis secured the nearest the pin prize on the par-three eighth hole.
Charity Auction
The Morson Group were runners-up in the team competition with BAM Nuttall finishing a solid third after a wonderful day of golf, and decent weather conditions whilst Tom Owen of Flannery Plant Hire the longest drive and G Leith of QTS the straightest drive.
Ged Mason, CEO of The Morson Group, surprised everyone by flying into the Mere alongside legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and landing on the 18th fairway before joining the socially distanced presentation and auction.
Having already secured the main sponsorship of the day, he was the winning bidder for a unique gold football, presented to Roy Keane and the Republic of Ireland team at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
Andrew McHale of McHale and Co secured a signed Riyad Mahrez Manchester City shirt, Peter O’Connor a signed Manchester United shirt.
Deacon Blue
“The generosity of our sponsors and guests has blown me way,” Rob added, “but then that shows you what a special man Billy was and what he mean’t to everyone.
“Next year, providing the threat of Covid has passed, we hope to add a black tie charity ball to follow the golfing event, where we can raise even more money for a terrific charity, and ensure Billy’s legacy lives on.”
Billy was a huge Deacon Blue fan and organised for them to play a special concert in his back garden. He sang on stage with lead singer Ricky Ross and the band and some of that performance was recorded by his friends.
Onside PR compiled a tribute to Billy and the Red CCTV using some of that footage and images and video captured by guests on the day. It isn’t professional footage but we think it captures the moment. Have a look below.
It is also not too late to donate. There is a Just Giving Page for anyone that would like to donate to this brilliant cause via this link.
