BUDDING squash pro Julian Tomlinson had a double reason to celebrate the Lancaster Open title – a family double!
Rising star Julian expected to challenge for the title but it was the efforts of his father John that grabbed the headlines, winning his first ever tournament!
The father/son combo left the opposition trailing in their wake at the first ever Lancaster Open organised by Lancaster University Squash Club.
Tomlinson junior beat some of the best English Under 19s to season before beating rival Robbie Williams in the final.
The Bolton based pro always had the match under control eventually strolling home 11-4. 12-10, 11-3 to continue his fine season.
But the surprise of the weekend went to his father John who only decided to enter because he had agreed to transport his son to the tournament at the new multi-million venue.
Tomlinson senior entered the C grade category and secured the title, in his first ever tournament, squeezing out Andrew Thwaite 11-9, 14-12, 11-6 in the final.
Congratulations to you both….we put it down to Onside’s on and off court coaching!
