RED CCTV Managing Director Rob Kennedy has handed over a whopping £12,000 cheque raised from a charity golf day.
The Manchester-based boss was delighted to support The Christie and Ronald McDonald House after a day dedicated to the memory of his friend Steve Burne.
Steve, had hoped to play in the RED CCTV Golf Day held at The Mere in October last year but it was decided he was too ill to attend.
In a tragic twist of fate, Steve lost his battle against synovial sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that affects the chest and shoulder, as the golfers were playing in his name.
Kennedy, said: “It was almost too heartbreaking to consider. I received the news that Steve had passed literally as we were about to hand out the prizes and hold the charity auction.
“I didn’t feel it was right to announce the news but still, our generous guests dug deep and raised a brilliant amount for the two charities close to his heart.
“Steve was a brilliant man and we can’t get over his passing. It is now our duty to continue his legacy and continue supporting those that need our help.”
Kennedy hugely admired the way Steve fought the disease and dedicated his final few months to raising money for the two charities.
He was given a terminal diagnosis in May 2017 but vowed to fight on, and raise £250,000 for Ronald McDonald House.
Ronald McDonald House provides accommodation for families near hospitals where their children are treated for cancer. Steve hoped to raise enough to create three new rooms.
Charity bike rides, dinners and a host of events were hosted in his name, forcing him to twice raise his target, with around £400,000 raised by the time of his passing.
The RED CCTV Golf Day bought together teams of golfers from the railway, construction and utility sector and was supported by former Manchester United legend Bryan Robson.
