“They were one of the first teams in the world to order a unit and their trials have been a real success.
“The DART team are elite rescue workers are always looking for new initiatives and techniques and the WASP ticks every box for their team.
“It was fantastic to join them for a training session and a pleasure to see the WASP being used by their team.”
DART, or Disaster And Rescue Team are an elite team within the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) formed in 1990 to handle complex rescue and fire fighting.
Their responsibilities include urban search and rescue, prolonged fire fighting, height and confined space operations and water rescues.
They believe the WASP, the world’s first portable monitoring device designed specifically to protect emergency service personnel and members of the public, will be invaluable to their arsenal of rescue equipment.
The WASP was conceived by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue worker Matt Keogh and Rory O’Rourke, the CEO of geotechnical and monitoring leaders DATUM Monitoring.
It detects vibration from 0 to 100 hz and movement from 0 to 2.6º and is designed to give sufficient early warning of potential danger.
