Three time British 800m champion Jemma Simpson and budding Olympian has turned to Onside PR as she bids for London 2012 glory.
The 28-year-old is beginning her final preparations for the GB Olympic trials and then her bid for glory at London 2012.
Jemma was controversially axed from the UK Athletics funding after injury forced her to miss the World Championships – even though she had already run below the ‘qualification’ times.
The three times British champion appealed the decision but was forced to go it alone after it was rejected – relying solely on the backing from sports giants Nike at the Oregon Track Club they fund in the States.
Despite the set-back the former Olympian has enjoyed an excellent winter training program and has fuelled her anger and frustration into her performances and now she is eyeing a podium finish at London 2012.
She said: “It has been difficult but I’ve managed to put it behind me and move on and hopefully it will not hold me back in achieving my goals.
“This will be my second Olympics and at 28 I should be reaching my peak, my times are good and barring any injuries I know I can reach the Semi-Finals and the Final is well within reach.
“The worry for me is the potential for injury as without cover from UK Athletics I have to finance my own medical covers and that is always a worry.
“The decision to train in America was mine but the withdrawal of funding left me with little alternatives and of course, that makes it incredibly difficult to attract sponsorship as I’m not in the UK to work with them.
“Fortunately it hasn’t held me back and now I am ready for the biggest summer of my life.”
Jemma’s training has been solid and, apart from a calf strain before Christmas, she is ready to begin her final preparations with three warm-up races in the States.
She will fly back to the UK at the beginning of June for the Olympic trials where she will compete for one of three places in the Team GB squad.
Jemma is focused on competing in the 800m and 1500m for Team GB and in front of a home crowd believes she can produce a medal.
Now is the time for UK businesses to give her a helping hand as she begins her final preparations by backing her bid.
Onside are interested to hear from sponsors who would be proud to back Jemma Simpson’s bid for Olympic glory.
